Trauma-Informed Approach
how we work

What is a Trauma-Informed Approach ?

tuition and learning services

A trauma-informed approach is an approach that recognises the widespread impact of trauma and the potential for re-traumatisation. It is an approach that is grounded in an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma and the ways in which trauma can affect a child’s behaviour, emotions, and learning.

At Sowing Seeds Tuition, we use a trauma-informed approach by creating a safe and supportive environment, building trust and providing choice and control. By doing so, we help children who have experienced trauma to feel safe, supported, and valued.

We recognise that many children may have experienced trauma, either directly or indirectly. Trauma can have a significant impact on a child’s mental health and wellbeing, which then affects their relationships, attendance at school and their academic performance. That’s why we use a trauma-informed approach in our tuition and well-being services and workshops to help educate and/or reintegrate 5-17 year olds back in the right educational setting.

  1. Creating a safe and supportive environment
We recognise that children who have experienced trauma may feel anxious, overwhelmed, or unsafe. That’s why we create a safe and supportive environment in which children can feel comfortable and secure.
  2. Building trust and relationships
We understand that children who have experienced trauma may struggle to trust others. That’s why we focus on building trusting relationships with each child, taking the time to get to know them and understand their individual needs.
  3. Providing choice and control
We recognise that children who have experienced trauma may feel a sense of powerlessness. That’s why we provide children with choice and control over their learning, allowing them to take ownership of their progress.
  4. Recognising and responding to trauma
We understand that trauma can have a significant impact on a child’s behaviour, emotions, and learning. That’s why we recognise and respond to signs of trauma, providing children with the support and resources they need to succeed.

By using a trauma-informed approach to our tuition and well-being services, we can help children who have experienced trauma to feel safe, supported, and valued. We can also help them to develop the resilience, coping skills, and emotional regulation they need to succeed academically and in life.
