Confident and Calm.
tuition and learning services
Sowing Seeds Wellbeing CIC have designed a confidence curriculum and run Confident and Calm workshops for 6-18 year olds in our centre. These bespoke wellbeing workshops help children understand their emotions and enjoy mindful activities to relax for the hour.
The purpose of our Confident and Calm workshops is to give children the tools to recognise when they need help and how to talk about it. Our confidence coaches are also Youth Mental Health First Aiders and help children learn coping mechanisms to manage any anxieties they may have. Some of our 16 year olds are now qualified youth mental health first aiders now too!
The workshops are arranged into different age groups, so that children feel safe and comfortable in the right group for them. We design the sessions based on the children in the group. We also use a range of activities to empower them and have fun! Often, this creates opportunities to explore how they are feeling.
In the workshops it is their time to be themselves and to do as much or as little as they want with activities we have planned. They open up, ask for help, offer peer support, make new friends and create their own fun without the need for technology or judgment.
There’s no pressure to follow a set structure or activity, and we are the first to recognise when something we have planned won’t work, or it isn’t the right time for one child, or more.
As part of the workshops, our programme includes an important part… RELAXATION! We ask all children to bring a pillow and blanket, and we get them to close their eyes and relax! It is important to learn how to switch off, ground yourselves and take time to calm the mind.
These sessions have been hugely rewarding and transformational with all ages…some even fall asleep.
In addition to our wellbeing workshops, we also recognise that revision is a challenge for many children. We have designed a Relax and Revise workshop for those studying their GCSEs. These sessions have had amazing emotional results, leaving year 11 students feeling calmer before exams, and understand effective revise techniques. We end each session with a visualisation exercise to calm their mind and leave feeling positive.
