We started off with one tutor and have grown over the past 3 and a half years with a team of 22 employed staff and over 50 tutors internationally to offer award-winning tuition, online tuition and coaching, dyslexia support, wrap around childcare and holiday club, support as a non-school alternative provision in Bradford, Leeds and Calderdale, supporting neurodivergent children learn in their own way and support their mental health, sell our family house to buy our premises and live upstairs(very soon!), open our Thackley wellbeing centre to support community health, offer family support and virtual and on site training as well as offer stay and play and bespoke learning for children and adults who needs a bespoke sensory environment and approach too. Apparently we are “doing too much”…but this is only the beginning! DM us to book a taster or find out about all our courses! #bradford #ofstedregistered #tutoring #gcse #ehcp ...

🤩Our incredible team was on the front page of The Telegraph & Argus (Bradford) last week! It’s hard to believe that just under 2 weeks ago we celebrated with the incredible educators who were finalists in Bradford’s Education Awards - and it’s thanks to your nominations 🥰. We didn’t win Specialist Provision of the Year (this year!), and we knew it was a tough category, but to be in the photo on the front cover shows how proud we were to be there.🥰!
We also had the privilege of judging the shortlist for Supporting Member of Staff of the Year - and Stacey (our Head of Operations) and I presented the award. We purposely chose this category over others as it reflects the importance of these key professionals who play an even more important role to support children, families (and all staff) at school, home and in the community. All of the finalists were fantastic and well done to Hayley for winning this award! She was in complete shock and Stacey and I stayed with her on stage, so she could celebrate this moment, as she was so nervous.
We would have loved to invite all our team from Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning and to be able to celebrate how much we’ve grown and what we have already achieved together for our learners and their families. Everyone was there in spirit.💙

To all of our amazing Year 6 and Year 11 students from everyone at Sowing Seeds Tuition 🌱
This is your reminder that exams are only a moment in time.
They are not a measure of your kindness, your creativity, your humour, your resilience, or the person you are becoming.
As you walk into your tests and exams this week, take this with you (and we will keep reminding you when we see you!):
Breathe.
Breathe in for 4… hold for 4… breathe out for 4…hold for 4 and repeat
(Here’s a little poem from Rachel)
One question at a time.
Exams are pages, Not the whole book. A snapshot in time, Not your entire story.
They cannot measure Your kindness to others, Your courage on hard days,
They don’t see the evenings you revised, The moments you doubted yourself but tried anyway, The quiet resilience growing inside you Every single day.
So walk in with your head high. Not because you need to be perfect But because you have prepared, You have persevered, And you are more capable than you think.
One breath. One question. One step at a time.
And whatever happens next, Be proud of how far you’ve already come.
Good luck Year 6 and Year 11. We believe in you, always. 🌱

It was an emotional day listening to all of the speakers, hearing about all of the experiences (and trauma) of parents and reading the comments from children about their experience in education and now out of mainstream schools. I love teaching and have always been proud to work in education but left as I knew the system was broken and it broke me. Today, we were united in wanting to achieve the same goal for all our children and young people - now and in the future. #westyorkshire #send #ehcp #childrensrights #nonschool ...

🚰👏Well done to our learners for an incredible Friday afternoon! Jordan taught our learners about the different fittings and fixtures and they had plenty of hands-on practical learning by measuring, cutting and connecting the pipes to the taps - even better, there were no leaks! Next week it’s all about electrics 12.30-14.30 and we have the option to deliver as part of the Construction ASDAN short course with one of our learning mentors too! We will also run half termly blocks focusing on one element but want to run tasters this half term for our learners to experience different skills and vocations. #asdan #bradford #nonprofit #preparationforadulthood ...

Our Constrution for Beginners Course with Jordan started this week with an introduction to different tools and joints! One of our learners was taught how to measure, saw and hammer to create a range of joints for the first time! We have more bookings each week, for plumbing this Friday and electrics the following week! This is a 7 week course and sessions can be purely for enjoyment and upskilling or alongside the ASDAN Course with our Learning Mentors. Part 2 - Post radio interview with @bcb106.6fm and @danielle.broadbent ! It flew by and there was so much more I could have talked aboutd validate Danielle’s petition and the reason why more pathways need to be available…without schools being held to ransom by out of date and unfair progress measurement scales, which ultimately have a long term impact on teachers’ mental health and students’ mental health.#bradford #childrensmentalhealth #send #ehcp #sendreform ...

🎙️🗣️📻 Listen to Rachel on @bcb106.6fm talking to @danielle.broadbent at 17.35 today (Tuesday) about the proposed SEND reforms and the opportunity this needs to create for settings like Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning that can shape positive change if schools have easier access to specialist non-school settings that can support mainstream and special schools early on. Our children and young people need inclusion to include them when they can’t access all of the targeted support that is being proposed in a school.

We are very proud to share that Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning is in the finals for Specialist Provision of the Year category at Bradford’s Education Awards 2026! Last year, we were finalists as the only non-school at the entire awards! To be nominated again for a second year is a real privilege.
The nominations from parents, carers and schools we work with have got us to this stage!
The Sowing Seeds’ journey started with just me as a self-employed tutor in September 2022 and quickly grew with a genuine vision to make sure children’s mental health comes first. Every member of staff has their own story and has contributed immensely to make Sowing Seeds what it is today. I’m incredibly lucky to have a wonderful team with so many skillsets.
Sowing Seeds began as a small evening tuition centre with one room, and quickly grew based on our children’s experiences and listening and learning about the needs of children, often neurodivergent, and families from the start. Today, we support children all they way into adulthood from 5-25(!), children in need, young people who have experienced trauma by providing a safe, nurturing space where they can rebuild trust, learn in a calmer environment, and access qualifications in a way that works for them.
In just 3.5 years, we’ve grown to a team of over 70 staff offering daytime support, wellbeing support and evening tuition! We also made a conscious decision with my team to remain a non-school so we can stay flexible and truly child-centred and what is needed for families, schools and the LA. It is refreshing that it was reaffirmed in a conversation with an HMI Ofsted Inspector yesterday, who was complimentary about his visit to see Sowing Seeds in February and passionate about us staying as a non-school as our approach is not only right, but needed outside of mainstream schools.
I’m looking forward celebrating with our team at our fourth awards event(!) on 30th April and to continuing to make a difference, one child and family at a time. Thank you to everyone for you support.
If you’d like to find out more about our services, I will add our websites in the comments. #bradford #westyorkhire #send #family ...

💪My body will hurt tomorrow! I have become more reflective about my own needs and what helps me feel safe and thrive too! After spending so long identifying, planning and adjusting for learners over the past 20 years, I’ve started to look inwards - more so than before - about what works for me and my team (who are just as important!) and celebrating our differences and how we all fit together. 🪑If you know us, you’ll know we’re always gently adapting our spaces and premises to suit the children and young people learning with us! From flexible dynamic seating, and calm low-demand areas, to movement breaks, chunked tasks and tailoring our teaching style. We never expect our learners to simply “fit” the environment. We shape the environment around them. 💛
Over time, we’ve noticed something really important…
By the time some children arrive for tuition — especially in the late afternoon and evening — they’re tired. They’ve worked hard all day at school. They’ve been sitting still, concentrating, managing social situations, following rules. That’s a lot.
And what can look like fidgeting, slouching or losing focus isn’t a lack of effort, it’s often pure mental and physical fatigue.
That’s why we’ve added wobble stools to both our daytime and evening sessions. 🌿
We’re realising they may be even more valuable at the end of the day than we first thought! When energy is low and regulation is harder, gentle movement can:
• Help re-engage tired brains
• Support posture when little bodies are worn out
• Release built-up restlessness from a full school day
• Make learning feel more fun, manageable and less pressured
It’s a small adjustment but those small adjustments can completely shift how your child feels in the room. And when your child feels comfortable and understood, they’re far more ready to learn.
We’ll always keep reflecting, listening and growing because that’s how we thrive too.
If you’d like to chat about how we personalise sessions and support wellbeing alongside learning, our inbox is always open. 🌱

2025 has done us proud as we end this year on a high ready to open our main studio next week! I’ve been out of action for a whole month wiped out by flu/Covid but today I was finally well enough to start painting! Thank goodness Laura has been on a mission and made sure everything runs to plan! Our sensory spaces will open in February and we will have our Preparation for Adulthood and meeting room ready in March along with our sensory garden and outdoor training area…including our very own forest school. Your donations have been incredible and we can’t thank everyone enough as it wouldn’t be possible without your generosity (and we are unpaid too so it all goes into the non-profit business 💜). The link for our Amazon work list will be shared in a separate post! Yoga with Sharon from @believeandachieveyoga starts on Monday 5th, 5.45-6.45 and 7-8pm and Tuesday 10.30-11.30. Pilates will start the following week! Please DM or contact us on 07753326202 to arrange a visit if you wish to deliver any training or workshops in Thackley (or access any)! We have seating for up to 12 people or you can use our space as a blank canvas to make it your own! Our ASDAN courses for our secondary and adult learners will start in January with a range of workshops from Expressive Arts, Computing, to Animal Care (and more)! You can book one of our 1-2-1 sessions or book a small group session for up to 4 learners. This day has finally arrived and John kindly gave Laura and I the keys today ready to get started on Monday! We received another generous donation of timber, a sink, vanity unit and lots more (we will doa separate post to thank them)! We have lots to do over the next month but that doesn’t phase us as we have been planning this for the past 6 months and know what our families need! Thank you so much to the companies, friends and members of the community for all your generous donations and giving up your time to help us shape what we will be offering our children and adults with SEND and empowering them by offering a therapeutic and educational space! We will be focusing on getting our floor ready and making some adjustments so we are fully accessible. If you can offer any services with screeding or even painting we would love to hear from you before we get started! We will be creating a thank you plaque to thank all our donors as this would not be possible without you. Thank you so much! 🥰

Our Sowing Seeds Directors personally went to thank Amar for organising a kind donation from @wickes in Shipley for an Accesible Bathroom Toilet, Basin and Grab Rails for our new wellbeing and training centre in Thackley as we prepare to get the keys next week! This will broaden our offer at our second centre to provide ASDAN and NCFE qualifications and courses as well as private exclusive access for families and small groups to get the support and respite they need at our centre.
Over the next few days, we can’t wait to share all of the generous donations from local and national companies to offer our children, young people and families a safe, supportive indoor and outdoor community and therapeutic space. Donations so far will help build our Preparation for Adulthood studio flat, construction of our sensory spaces and our training centre - and we are incredibly grateful!
We are still in need of a plumber to move a boiler (slightly) to allow wheel chair access through an access point and will asking flooring companies for materials or donations towards the flooring to make sure it is comfortable for our vulnerable learners. We will be very busy over the next couple of months as we prepare for our launch in the new year!

Our activities will run on a carousel each day with our team of childcare practitioners and primary teachers, so your child will get plenty of opportunities to play and have time to have adventures!
We provide breakfast and one meal for children attending for a full day and just ask parents and carers to provide one packed lunch.

🥳 We are have been shortlisted and in the finals for Specialist Provision School of the Year in Bradford in Bradford Education Awards!🥳
We are filled with so much love and appreciation to every person who has nominated and has supported us so far - it was a complete shock when I opened my emails this morning!
To our incredible team, thank you so much for being you. We wouldn`t be able to help all our students, families and schools without your unique skillset and being part of the team. I beam with pride seeing the noticeable difference every session has on students as they enter and leave and it wouldn`t be possible without the empathy, compassion and knowledge every member of staff has.
It also brings hope that despite many of our families - often behind closed doors - experiencing their darkest and most difficult times, something positive can come from this as you help shape our provision to make sure your child gets what they need and others need.
We make sure our intervention offers the much-needed support not easily and readily accessible for your child and other children and young people in Bradford, West Yorkshire and the country.
Hopefully this recognition raises the profile of unregistered provisions and the invaluable support we offer and that current registered provisions don`t. It`s the families who can share the difference and impact our provision has already had on their child.
Thank you again for both myself and Stacey!
💜💚💙

💚 We loved reading this yesterday from one of our daytime parents🥰!
It`s when our parents, carers and schools see the difference in their child we know we want to help even more vulnerable children and young people.
Relationships are so important to us and it`s the communication between ourselves, families, schools and the local authority services that help ensure our children and young people can access the right support to help them thrive.
We are so grateful that schools reach out to us and want to work in partnership because they recognise the difference we can make together. As an alternative provision, they trust us to create a bespoke education and wellbeing programme to help their students.
Thank you to the community and school SENCOs and staff for spreading the word as it`s with your recommendations we can now offer even more and employ more staff!

💜💚🤍 WOWY indeed! Last night, I had the privilege of joining the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Deputy Mayor of West Yorkshire and the Mayor of West Yorkshire’s business advisor alongside the women of West Yorkshire! We celebrated what we have all achieved both personally and in business, and how we continue to support one another to form new networks and connections!
The event was 6-9pm and initially what seemed to be a late hour for a network event was in fact brilliant. Thanks to Tom, my husband, for collecting the kids and sorting bedtime, I got to relax, network and eat delicious food without the need to clock watch or think about anything I needed to do at work!
It felt like fate to connect with women who shared the same values, experiences and desire to make real change for our children and young people to be safe, feel safe and have the best opportunities academically, socially and professionally today and in the future.
Just over 2 years ago, I wouldn’t have been brave enough to walk up to a group of women I’d never met before and start a conversation. When I first attempted networking, I would often leave - even though I had finally parked and arrived - alI because I was late (which is a common theme for me!). Or, I’d arrive on time and feel paranoid if I wasn’t dressed a particular way and I’d swiftly leave once the speakers would finish out of fear of being judged; I felt so out of place and as though I didn’t belong or feel entitled to be in certain networks. Yesterday felt completely different! The WOWY event felt inclusive and I was at ease even before I walked in the room.
They say practice makes perfect and, over time, my confidence has grown and I’ve realised that to get what our vulnerable children and young people need, I have to be their advocate (and our families’) to raise our profile and showcase the ways Sowing Seeds helps so many families at different stages of their educational journey (and often diagnosis).
We are ambitious in the way we want to help our 8-25 year olds to access a range of support whether it is delivered by Sowing Seeds Tuition, Sowing Seeds Wellbeing CIC and/or Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning Limited. ...
Amazing - well done Danielle! Today one of our parents was at West Minster representing so many families’ voices and their entitlement to a fair, equitable system that offers every opportunity for them to succeed now and in adulthood. We love that our mission to ‘sow seeds’ and grow in so many ways to support and connect people to feel empowered with limitless possibility means that we are achieving our mission 🥰.
Danielle came to us after battling barriers to support her son’s education (that’s her story not ours to share). She came to us to help in the daytime and tutor her son in English and Maths to prepare for his GCSE exams at school (when he was not attending). Although we supported with this, we also spoke to her at length and shared that we offer Functional Skills in English and Maths and that it is more accessible (for a plethora of reasons), and that he had the option to do this as well.
This transformed things and we are so proud of how far Danielle has been able to reach to create a national campaign to advocate for more opportunities for learners that don’t hold them back purely because of systematic flaws with league tables and preferred exam structures.
We have always been inclusive and have grown to offer every pathway we can financially afford to deliver and facilitate! We now offer Functional Skills in Maths, English, Computing, Art and Health and Social Care!
In 12 months, we will offer even more courses, including IGCSE and GCSEs, alongside our partner school exam boards.
Education should never be limiting; it should always be limitless and feel empowering!

🕶️☀️🥵 I am shattered now but I had a brilliant time with a different hat on as a parent and member of Idle CE PTFA at Idle Primary School’s Summer Fayre! It was a team effort and despite the crazy weather today, we pulled it off and with the help of the amazing staff members always there to help, lots of local small businesses, our games stalls and all the Year 6 superstar students and their Enterprise stalls! It was a great turnout and thank you to everyone for coming back to the fayre even after an early finish!😄
We would have been lost without all our mini-volunteers and made sure they had plenty of hydration breaks and time in the shade too!
Well done to everyone for a great event even in this sweltering heat! I think we will all sleep well tonight and ache quite a bit tomorrow!😅
We will see you at Thorpe’s summer fair on Tuesday!!

🕶️☀️ Despite the heat, we are so proud of our students for saving energy today to learn with us tonight☺️! We have kept everyone hydrated and also have the benefit that our building is that it is lovely and cool!
As part of GCSE English Language and Literature, we balance exam reading and exam writing skills with learning HOW to revise! We even embed time in each session to dedicate developing their revision material - this is in Year 10, so imagine how prepared they will be for their mocks and actual GCSE exam next year! This week we focused on using the rhyme method! With over twenty years’ experience in teaching and as a GCSE examiner and Former Head of English (for 2 of our English teachers!), we know how to make learning enjoyable, accessible and valuable every session.

🧠⏰💆♀️ It’s amazing the power of thinking time and comfortable silence to allow our students’ creativity to flow.
We love tutoring because we celebrate when children make mistakes and say we are glad they are making them! Imagine that? Keep making more mistakes, especially with us! It’s a risk they have taken to try something new and then we look at everything they have learnt from trying something different, what worked well, and we help them learn even more from that point.
We have welcomed even more children in the final half term this year, launched our online learning platform for summer, as well as booked students in for September!
If you’d like to find out about the different offers we have, check out our website or DM as we have an exciting offer with 3 months of learning in English, Maths or Science for £60, saving 30%!

🥰📻 I loved chatting to Gayle today on The Gayle Lofthouse Radio Show on BBC Radio Leeds! There was so much I wanted to share about our journey and how we have evolved to offer more than tuition; offering daytime support with part-time timetables and EOTAS packages too!
Supporting children’s mental health is at the heart of our approach and we help children (and families) who have experienced trauma and need a personalised wellbeing and educational package, whether in the daytime or weekend or holidays.

One of the reasons I became a tutor was because I wanted to focus on children's mental health as much as their academic progress.
As a Head of English and senior leader, I saw first-hand how anxiety and stress increased as exams approached. For some young people, it became so overwhelming that they stopped attending school altogether. And this is happening even before it’s an exam year (which says a lots).
I remember the countdowns we used to display around school corridors and classrooms. "100 days until exams." "50 days left."
At the time, I genuinely believed they were helpful. I thought they reminded students of the importance of the exams and how much time they had left to prepare.
But knowing what I know now, both professionally and personally, I see it very differently.
Imagine being 15 or 16 years old and seeing a giant countdown every day to what feels like the most important moment of your life. Then imagine not knowing how to revise, not having a quiet space to study, feeling behind in several subjects, or lacking confidence altogether. And the pressure…
For many children, that doesn't create motivation.
It creates panic.
And when anxiety takes over, instinct kicks in. Fight. Flight. Freeze.
At Sowing Seeds Tuition, when we support students with SATs, GCSEs or A Levels, and from 5-19, we don't start with the content.
We start with the child and young person.
We talk about how they feel about the subject. We explore their worries about school or upcoming exams. We identify where they feel confident and where they don't. We find the gaps, but more importantly, we build confidence alongside knowledge.
We also teach something that many young people have never been shown properly tailored for them:
📚 How to revise
📚 How to study effectively
📚 Which revision strategies work best for them (and the subject)
📚 How to break learning into manageable chunks
📚 How to approach exam papers with confidence
What really makes the difference, though, is having TIME.
Yes, I've taught GCSE courses from scratch and helped students achieve passes within just two months. Even overnight!
But cramming two years of content into a few weeks places enormous pressure on a young person.
That's why many of our students join us in Year 9 or Year 10. They develop study habits, revision routines and confidence long before the pressure of Year 11 arrives.
Right now, many Year 10 students are preparing for their mock exams.
And I’ve learnt a lot about mentality towards exams over the past 3 1/2 years talking to parents and when they’ve chosen to book…
It's easy as a parent to think:
➡️ "We'll wait for their results in July."
➡️ "Let's see how they get on."
➡️ "We'll start in September."
➡️ "We'll wait until parents’ evening; their first mocks."
➡️ "Let's wait until January and get over new year."
Before you know it, there are just four months left.
That's around 16 weekly sessions to cover two years of content and multiple exam papers in every subject.
And let's not even talk about the summer learning dip coming up!
There’s no wonder why children eventually ask for tuition by Easter!
If your child would like some additional support, we have a few different options available if you’re not ready to commit to a subject for tuition yet. (And our independent learning programme is perfect for the summer holidays!).
Option A.
Independent Learning Programme £29 per month
✔ Diagnostic assessment
✔ Personalised learning pathway
✔ Five-minute learning sessions focused on confidence gaps
✔ Quizzes to check understanding
✔ Instant parent feedback and progress tracking
You can also upgrade to include a weekly 15-minute coaching session (£49 per month including independent learning platform ) to boost their confidence and support their routine and where to focus.
Option B.
Study Skills Sessions
Every Saturday, 11am–12pm £20 per session
These sessions focus on whichever subject your child needs support with that week, alongside practical revision and study strategies to help them learn more effectively. These are free when booked with 2 or more sessions per week!
Option C.
Dyslexia-Focused Study Skills Programme
Every Wednesday, 4.30pm–5.30pm
Designed to support learners with dyslexia and literacy difficulties through practical strategies that build confidence, organisation, memory and independent study skills.
Or all Options alongside tuition.
I know that success in exams isn't always about learning more content. Often it's about having enough time, using the right strategies and developing the confidence to believe that you can do it with enough time to practise.

I’ve also added links in the comments with info too.

This is the story of one of one parents (she is a great person to follow!) and it’s wonderful that we are part of his journey now and part of the positive changes for all of them. We are so proud of the young man he is and it’s a pleasure to teach him and make him feel safe. 🌱That day changed everything
It’s not that the signs were not there
Or that we were completely unaware
You see, deep inside I knew the depth
I saw the struggle and the pain
As he begged, pleaded and wept
But we kept trying, again and again
‘School is best’, we are told
‘School is where they’re meant to be’
‘School is the only way’
Indoctrinated, we agree
It’s not a conscious choice we make
When we bring them into the world
The unspoken path of school compliance
An inherited map, unfurled
On that day, my instincts overridden
I ignored the voice inside
I listened to the ‘experts’
A regret I cannot put aside
Because now I see too clearly
How the system favours ticks
On the damned attendance register
Wellbeing lost to statistics
At a time my son needed understanding
At a time he needed to be heard
At a time my boy needed support
Their decisions were absurd
He was 9 years old in crisis
He was 9 years old - just a child
When he was restrained
When his innocence was defiled
By the actions of those people
Who, in that moment, failed my child
Failed to see a boy in need
Treated like an animal in the wild
The call came - ‘school’ displayed on my screen
If I’d trusted myself, could I have foreseen?
The damage that would be done that day in school
I trusted them, not myself, and I felt like a fool
Because I now know for sure
That a parent knows best
What is right for their child
That WE can attest
What is best for our kids
When to push, when to rest
When school is NOT the answer
A parent knows best
That day changed everything
That day our world was shattered
The plans, the hopes, the dreams
Everything became scattered
The future lost its outline
The certainty withdrew
And every ordinary thing
Became something to 'get through'
Alone, adrift, broken, fractured, lost
We searched for some support
Education, health, social care
Every service would fall short
So we were alone, our boy’s nervous system on fire
Looking for the help our family would require
To recover from the devastating effects of that day
Looking for someone to help us find our way
When I finally realised that help did not exist
That the only way through this was for a parent to persist
For a parent to become advocate, detective and lawyer
For a parent to become professional local authority annoyer
THAT day changed everything
THAT day my eyes were opened wide
To the reality we were facing
THAT day I found my stride
And my confidence and my power
And then I started to learn the law
As I gained more and more knowledge
I became a voice they couldn’t ignore
I fought, I pushed, I played their game better than they could
You see, I was a SEND parent fighting for my son’s childhood
And when you back us into a corner
We will not shrink or hide
We will not let poor wording
In an EHCP slide
We will not be deterred from fighting for what our children need
A SEND parent’s heart is strong and we will not concede
I took on this fight alone
My love was my drive
My hope for a future
Where my son could thrive
EOTAS was the only path that could help my son
And so I fought to the end - I fought until we won
Despite the cost, despite the pain
I would fight this fight again and again
Because, you see, this child of mine
He has a different mind
It does not fit in mainstream
But it must not be left behind
Because these kids who have ‘different’ minds
Are exactly what the world needs
He sees the world in different ways
And different minds plant different seeds
And so it’s perfect that he is now supported
By Sowing Seeds tuition
Tutors who really see my amazing son
And help us on our mission
To enable him to be himself
To put his mask aside
So the amazing boy he truly is
No longer has to hide
And watching him step into the light
Without fear, without disguise
Has shown me that the different minds
Are often where true brilliance lies
So, that day really did change everything
But now I finally see
That helping him become himself
Also helped me become me

Today was a heart-warming day and it’s lovely to celebrate these moments - thanks for sharing Emma. 🥰 One of our other tutors was crying earlier today too. When I was told that E made Jo cry, I was initially worried what had happened…and then reassured they were happy tears! E said that he feels safe with her and enjoys learning. We all have good days and bad days…and today was a good day for these learners 💙. We will continue to make adjustments however we can; and will strive to make every learner feel safe to learn and discover their potential. One of my students giggled today. It caught me completely off guard.
I'm not an outwardly emotional person.
But to hear the sound of genuine, pure, childish joy from a boy whose parents didn't think would talk to me 7 months ago...argh it got me. Everything we'd done suddenly gained meaning in that one second.
This was safety. This was happiness.
This is what alternative provisions like Sowing Seeds Tuition and Wellbeing can achieve. Steadily building safety; forging relationships; breaking down walls; listening; researching; personalising.
Yes we've got through the year 7 curriculum, and yes, he can prove why the sum of three consecutive integers is divisible by 3.
But today he giggled. That's everything. ❤️
